New Delhi : Air Marshal P.K. Roy, a seasoned helicopter pilot with varied command and staff experience, Friday took over as the commandant of the prestigious National Defence College (NDC) here.
An alumnus of the Khadakwasla-based National Defence Academy, Roy was commissioned into the helicopter stream of the Indian Air Force on July 11, 1975.
A graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, he is also an alumnus of the NDC and did his Higher Air Command Course from the College of Air Warfare at Secunderabad.
With 4,500 hours of flying experience to his credit, he is a qualified flying instructor and has held instructional positions at the Air Force Academy at Dundigal, as well as the Helicopter Training School at Hakimpet in Secunderabad.
Among his important appointments include command of a helicopter unit and an important base in the Leh sector in Jammu and Kashmir and in the capital.
He served as military and air attache in the Indian embassy in the Ukraine with accreditation to Romania from 2002 to 2005. He also held the position of senior officer in charge of administration at the Eastern Air Command headquarters at Kolkata.
For his distinguished service of a high order, he was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal in 1995, the Vishist Seva Medal in 2005 and the Ati Vishist Seva Medal in 2007.
