Accept JPC demand for smooth parliament session: Jaitley

By IANS,

Ranchi: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley Saturday said the union government should accept the demand for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the 2G spectrum scam for the smooth running of parliament’s budget session beginning Feb 21.

“The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government should begin the exercise to create an environment to ensure smooth running of parliament. The opposition parties are united over JPC probe,” Jaitley said in a press conference here.

The leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha arrived here to take part in a two-day state level BJP executive committee meeting that began Saturday.

Jaitley hit out against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over his stand on different scams and price rise.

“Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seems to have lost control over his cabinet and his alliance partners. He is failing to manage the economy and lacks the will to fight corruption,” he claimed.

“The central vigilance commissioner’s appointment was questioned by our party since day one. The government’s weak stand on the issue in the Supreme Court is a lesson for them,” Jaitley said.

Referring to the Karmapa issue, the BJP leader said: “It is not proper to comment on the matter at present. Let the investigating agencies probe it and we hope the central government will take the issue seriously.”
