Orissa to allot homestead land to sportspersons

Bhubaneswar: Homestead land will be allotted to eminent sportspersons of Orissa for excelling in their respective fields, the state government said Saturday.

Homestead land of 2,400 square feet each in Chandrasekharpur area of the state capital will be given to five eminent sportspersons from the state, an official told IANS.

Hockey players Prabodh Tirkey, Jyoti Sunita Kullu and Lazarus Barla, sprinter Rachita Mistry and weight lifter K. Ravi Kumar will be given the land, he said.

All the five sportspersons are of international repute and have brought fame to the state, he said.

The state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, gave its nod Friday to the proposal for allotment of land, he added.
