Group of Islamic scholars demands reservation for Muslims

By TCN News,

Patna: Referring to the various commissions and committees which have confirmed backwardness of Indian Muslims, All India Ulema Mashaikh Board (AIUMB) has demanded reservation for the Muslims in order to eliminate their socio-economic backwardness.

“Despite the fact that Muslims made equal contributions to liberating India from foreign domination, they have been systematically marginalized in all aspects of the human development Index. In other words, fruits of independence have been kept away from them,” said Maulana Mohammad Ashraf Kichochavi, general secretary of AIUMB.

The general secretary of AIUMB further said that the Gopal Singh High Power Minority Panel instituted by Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Sachar Committee Report and Ranganath Mishra Commission Reports formed by UPA Government, confirmed dire condition of Muslims and advocated reservation for them but, unfortunately, nothing substantial has yet taken place in this direction.

He demanded that recommendation of the Sachar Committee and Ranganath Mishra Commission Report should be seriously pursued and sincerely implemented.
“We deem reservation’ as an effective aspect of affirmative action program’ and hence demand that Muslims should be provided with the facility of reservation in educational institutions and government employment. Similarly, political reservations should also be provided to Muslims to ensure their due representation because Indian democracy will flourish only when all the social segments take proportional part in the political process of the country” added Maulana Kichochavi.

Terming the recommendation of Ranganath Mishra Commission Report about inclusion of Dalit Muslims in SC list as commendable, he asked government to take sincerely all necessary measures for their speedier implementation. He criticized the central government for blatantly ignoring the recommendations of Sachar Committee and Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Waqf in the Waqf Amendment Bill 2010.
