Closing in on suspect in Chennai boy’s killing: Police

By IANS,

Chennai : Six days after the shocking killing of 13-year-old K.Dilshan inside army residential campus here, Tamil Nadu Police said they are closing in on the suspect and expected a breakthrough soon.

“The investigation is still on. We are making a list of residents of the army quarters, their servants and others. We are working on all aspects to nail the killer,” R. Sekar, assistant director general of police (ADGP) at Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID), told IANS.

On Sunday afternoon, Dilshan and his friends trespassed into the army residential campus to pluck almonds. The boys were shot at and Dilshan was fatally wounded.

Dilshan’s autopsy confirmed that his death was caused by bullet injuries and he must have been shot at from a close range.

The police have sent the bullet seized from the spot for ballistic tests to ascertain its make.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa squarely blamed the army personnel for the killing.

Queried about the ballistic report, Sekar said: “We are yet to receive that. We might get that tomorrow (Saturday) as it has to come through the court.”

The only indication from Sekar is that the investigators are in the process of zeroing on the suspect killer.

Till Friday, more than 15 people have been questiond by the CB-CID team and some more will be questioned Saturday.
