Now, Digvijay feels Ashok Chavan, Suresh Kalmadi are ‘innocent’

By IANS,

Pune: Scam-tainted Congress leaders – former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan and Pune MP Suresh Kalmadi – Monday got the sympathy of party general secretary Digvijay Singh, who feels both are “innocent”.

Speaking to a group of party workers here Monday afternoon, Singh said that he “felt sorry” for both Chavan and Kalmadi.

“In my personal opinion, both are innocent, but if any corruption charges are levelled against anybody, then Soniaji (Gandhi) has to initiate action,” he declared.

While Kalmadi is an accused for alleged corrupt deals during the Commonwealth Games, Chavan lost his job as chief minister after his name cropped up in the Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society scam of Mumbai.

Singh added that the Congress party has “always acted against corruption” and never spared anybody against whom there are allegations of corruption by taking stern action in all such cases.

“However, Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who is facing corruption charges has not been touched by his party,” Singh said, taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is ruling in Karnataka.

He also said that all the scams, including Adarsh Society, CWG and 2G spectrum, had come to light because of the Right to Information Act brought in by the Congress government.
