Madhya Pradesh’s representation in cabinet comes down

By IANS,

New Delhi: The union cabinet reshuffle Tuesday has brought down the representation of Madhya Pradesh with two ministers from the state among those dropped.

Kanti Lal Bhuria and Arun Yadav were among the seven ministers dropped from the council of ministers by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Bhuria, MP from Ratlam and tribal affairs minister, had been appointed president of Madhya Pradesh Congress in April this year.

Yadav, who is MP from Khandwa, was Tuesday dropped as minister of state for agriculture and food processing and made a secretary of the All India Congress Committee.

Madhya Pradesh, which sends 29 MPs to the Lok Sabha, now has only two members in the union council of ministers – Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia.

There was speculation before the reshuffle that Scindia would be made a cabinet minister.

Congress leaders from Madhya Pradesh said that lesser representation to the state in the cabinet could make it harder for the party to revive itself in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled state. The Congress has lost two successive assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh.
