New Delhi: A day after a series of blasts rocked Mumbai killing at least 17 people and injuring over 131, Delhi Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta Thursday held a meeting with police officers of adjoining states to discuss security measures.
The national capital was placed on high alert since Wednesday evening and vigil was stepped up at all vulnerable areas.
In a meeting, Gupta and senior officers of police forces of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan discussed security measures that could be taken up in view of the upcoming Independence Day (Aug 15).
Gupta stressed the need to take coordinated action to organise joint checking at borders.
The meeting took up several issues relating to apprehending proclaimed offenders and keeping surveillance on criminals released from jail.
“We have asked the states to brief the staff about the reward announced by Delhi Police on the arrest of proclaimed offenders, for it would help in controlling crime,” said Gupta.
Besides, the officials also exchanged information on inter-state active criminals and chalked out plans and strategies for concerted action.
Meanwhile, anti-terror measures like launching of intensive drives for verification of tenants, servants, guest houses, car dealers, cyber cafe users, cycle sellers, contract labourers, and shops selling explosive substances have been launched.
In Delhi, security was beefed up in crowded places and extra personnel have been deployed especially at market places including Chandni Chowk, Connaught Place, Greater Kailash, Karol Bagh, Mehrauli and Sarojini Nagar.
Delhi Metro also beefed up the security with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deploying additional personnel at all Metro stations.
Pickets have come up at important junctions and intensive searches are being carried out. Mock drills too were conducted in several parts of the city Thursday.
