Russia, Britain to improve military cooperation

Moscow : Russia and Britain have agreed on greater military cooperation in the near future, a top Russian official said.

“Relations between our military establishments will climb to a new level shortly,” Russian General Staff chief Nikolai Makarov was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

Makarov said this after talks with visiting British general David Richards.

He said that after a long period of cold relations, cooperation between the defence ministries of the two countries had been set to a more active mode.

The two officers also discussed European security and the situation in Libya.

Richards said the two countries’ military ties would be further developed, especially in the light of the ongoing efforts to stabilise the situation in Afghanistan.
