Mumbai: Spelling a major setback for Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh, the Bombay High Court said Thursday that a petition questioning his disproportionate assets was “maintainable”, and the ongoing probe by three agencies against him must continue.
A division bench of Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice R.V. More gave the order on the petition filed by Sanjay Tiwari, a social worker, and placed the matter for further hearing next month.
“Let the probe by the investigating agencies go on,” the judges observed.
Tiwari has alleged in his plea that Singh and his family members own crores of rupees of assets which are disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Earlier, the judges had gone through the probe reports of the three agencies – Income Tax Department, Enforcement Directorate and Maharashtra’s Anti-Corruption Bureau, and directed them to continue their investigations.
The petitioner has also linked Singh, a former minister of state for home, with the Madhu Koda scandal.
Demanding a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case, the petitioner said that Singh and his family had amassed huge wealth over the years.
He contended that Singh is also closely linked to former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, the kingpin in the much-discussed multi-crore hawala scam, currently in jail.
