London : Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has urged the international community to devise a clear roadmap on Afghanistan to ensure peace and stability in the region.
At a meeting with Mark Philip Sedwill, Britain’s special envoy for Kabul and Islamabad, Gilani hoped a strategy would be drawn before the Bonn meet for life after the American withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The Associated Press of Pakistan quoted him as saying that Pakistan’s policy was very clear. He said his country wanted a “stable, peaceful and prosperous” Afghanistan.
Gilani said Pakistan believed in a policy of non-interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs and believed that peace there was vital for the stability of the entire region.
He said Pakistan was trying to fight the menace of terrorism despite heavy odds but needed international support to sustain its commitment.
Gialni said Pakistan was working with the Afghan leadership to promote reconciliation through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.
Pakistani is widely accused of still covertly backing the Taliban, which the Americans ousted from Kabul in the wake of Sep/11 attack blamed on the Al Qaeda.
