Khare denies meeting Fai, to send legal notice to daily

By IANS,

New Delhi : Harish Khare, media advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Friday denied having ever met Ghulam Nabi Fai and said he will send a legal notice to The New Indian Express which published an article by columnist S. Gurumurthy alleging that Khare had accepted the hospitality of the Kashmiri American lobbyist under arrest in the US.

“I completely deny the allegation,” Khare said.

In an article titled “Are they just useful idiots” published in The New Indian Express Friday, “Gurumurthy has included my name in the list of seculars and liberals who have accepted Fai’s invitation and hospitality”, Khare said in a press release, posted on the website of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Khare said: “Gurumurthy’s assertion is a total lie. I completely deny the allegation. I do not know Fai. I have never met him, much less accepted his hospitality for any seminar or convention.”

The release said a legal notice is also being sent to the newspaper.

Fai, said to be a frontman for Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), was arrested Tuesday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The US probe agency found that he had clandestinely received millions of dollars in the last two decades from the Pakistani government to lobby in the US for its Kashmir policy.
