New Delhi: All India Students Association (AISA) on Saturday organized a protest march here at Jantar Mantar against some latest decisions of Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jung, including the steep hike in tuition and hostel fees. Students from Jamia Millia besides JNU and Delhi University took part in the protest.
“Fees in almost all courses have hiked steeply. Even the Hostel fees have been hiked. This step will negatively impact the students coming from low-income backgrounds who come in search of a good education. The hike in hostel fees cause more students to live in unhealthy accommodations available around the university,” AISA said.
AISA took out a protest march on Saturday (23rd July) in Delhi against fee hike at Jamia Millia Islamia
A protester said: “Jami Millia Islamia has become a minority institute. If the fees are hiked every year in this scale, the economically weaker Muslim section will be deprived of the facilities of Jamia and its Minority status.”
The students were also angry at the latest order from the VC office saying 80% attendance mandatory for students to give exams.
The marchers demanded the VC to revoke the hike in fees and make the system of attendance more transparent and student friendly.
