Bhopal: The two day meeting of state leaders of Popular Front of India, (PFI), held at New Delhi has demanded the investigating agencies to extend the probe into all possible angles including involvement of Hindutva terror outfits in Mumbai blasts, instead of targeting members of the Muslim community alone.
A Press release of the Popular Front said that it is condemnable that a section of the media, either quoting or misquoting the police, has started a hate campaign against Muslims under the pretext of Mumbai blast investigations. The meeting strongly objected to the reports published in a few news papers dragging Popular Front into the issue. It was decided in the meeting to complain to the Press Council and also to sue the concerned newspapers.
The meeting strongly disapproved the moves by the BJP government in Karnataka against Popular Front by alleging organization’s link to certain incidents of crime in the state. The meeting warned that BJP cannot divert peoples’ attention from their misrule and corruption throughout the state by such malicious campaigns and that Popular Front along with other secular organisations would continue the struggles against the communal and corrupt politics of Sangh Parivar, the release stated.
In another resolution the meeting urged the government and all secular political parties to come forward with a clear and comprehensive formula for granting reservation to Muslim community and stop playing with the issue for petty electoral gains.
Dr. John Dayal, Secretary General of All India Christian Council and Member National Advisory Council, presented a lecture on the draft Communal Violence Bill. He pointed out the background and importance of the bill and stressed the need for command responsibility of the officers for the acts of their subordinates during incidents of violence. The lecture was followed by a lively interaction.
The meeting was attended by Chairman E. M. Abdul Rahiman, Vice Chairman Muhammed Ali Jinnah, General Secretary K M Shareef in addition to office bearers from different states of Karamana Asharaf Moulavi, P. Abdul Hameed, A. S Ismail, Elyas Muhammed Thumbae, Muhammed Riyas Pasha, Muhammed Arif Ahamed, Manzoor Basha, Muhammed Shafi, Khalid Manzoor, Muhammed Shahabuddin, Muhammed Arshad, Muhammed Arif and Kalimullah Siddiqui.
