BJP to protest outside parliament for land bill

By IANS,

Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Kisan Morcha — farmers’ outfit — Wednesday announced here that it will hold a protest outside parliament Aug 3 to demand the tabling of the land acquisition bill in the forthcoming monsoon session.

BJP Kisan Morcha national president O.P. Dhankar told reporters that they will also seek amendments to the already tabled pesticides management bill and seeds bill.

Dhankar said that the Congress-led central government was against the farming community and was bringing the pesticides management bill to appease the pesticides lobby.

Raising concerns over India fast turning into a pesticide-testing lab for the world, Dhankar said that 67 pesticides banned in other parts of globe were available in the country.

He added that the Seeds bill would grant monopoly to companies in the seeds sector.

Dhankar said the central government’s policies on land acquisition were allowing multi-national companies to loot farmers.

“Fertile land is being acquired at cheaper rates and handed over to companies for purely business reasons,” he said.
