Varanasi : As many as 55 fake passports were Saturday seized from a man suspected to be involved in a human trafficking and was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi city, police said.
Ram Janak, 40, was nabbed near the city railway station.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that Ram Janak worked for a well organised human trafficking racket that is controlled from Maharashtra,” police inspector V.K. Mishra told reporters in Varanasi, some 300 km from state capital Lucknow.
“The fake passports recovered from Ram Janak are of people living in West Bengal, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Delhi and several other states,” he added.
Uttar Pradesh Police have contacted their Maharashtra counterparts to nab the kingpin of the racket, who is believed to be hiding in Mumbai.
