New Delhi : Union ministers Kapil Sibal and Subodh Kant Sahay Friday failed to reach an agreement with Baba Ramdev even after four hours of talks on the yoga guru’s threat to go on an indefinite fast against corruption.According to sources, no compromise could be reached as Ramdev insisted on going ahead with his fast from Saturday at the Ramlila Grounds in the national capital.
Ramdev has announced a stir to force the government to take urgent steps to bring back black money stashed away abroad by Indians.
Sibal, one of government’s negotiators, told reporters that an agreement could not be reached even though the government gave written answers to the issues raised by Ramdev.
“I have no idea about his plans,” Sibal said when asked if Ramdev will be permitted to go on fast.
Ramdev’s spokesperson, however, said that the answers given by the government were
unsatisfactory.
Talks were held in the upscale Claridges Hotel from 2 p.m. This was the second round of talks between government and the yoga guru. The first round was held Wednesday.
Sources said the hotel was selected as a “neutral venue”. The ministers did not want to go to the Ramlila Ground, as it would have given an impression of the government giving too much importance to the yoga guru, the sources said.
Before leaving for the hotel, Ramdev told his followers that the fast was on schedule.
He added that barring one or two issues, there was a consensus among the government and him.
