Bhopal : At least 1,500 ghariyals were born on a river bank in Madhya Pradesh’s Sheopur district in the last fortnight, an official statement said Sunday.
The statement said the Katannipura Ghat has 46 female gharials and they gave birth to 1,500 baby gharials May 17-30.
According to WWF India website, ghariyals are an endangered species and there are only 1,200 of them left in India.
Sheopur is over 400 km from the state capital.
