Delhi Police took decision to evict Ramdev: Chidambaram

By IANS,

New Delhi: Union Home Minister P. Chidambram Wednesday said the decision to evict Baba Ramdev and his supporters from Ramlila ground post-midnight June 4 was taken by Delhi Police.

“Delhi Police took the decision to remove Baba Ramdev from Ramlila ground,” Chidambram told reporters here.

He said the decision to remove Ramdev was taken after it became clear that the yoga guru was backing out of his assurance to Human Resource Minister Kapil Sibal and his ministerial colleague Subodh Kant Sahay who were negotiating with him on behalf of the government.

Tracing the background of Ramdev’s anti-corruption agitation to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliates, the minister said the agitation was politically and ideologically coloured.
