Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday summoned an emergency meeting of all its Maharashtra legislators and parliamentarians Tuesday to discuss the crisis arising out of the banner of revolt raised by party’s Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde, an official said.
All the MPs and legislators have been ordered to remain present at the crucial meeting, convened at the party office, in the morning, a spokesman said.
The meeting is likely to be attended by all the 46 legislators and nine MPs from the state, the spokesman said.
Besides, other top leaders like state party chief Sudhir Mungantiwar, Mumbai chief Raj Purohit, Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra legislative assembly Eknath Khadse and his counterpart in the legislative council Pandurang Phundkar, and other senior office-bearers have been summoned.
Though the spokesman declined to reveal the agenda for the emergency meeting, he said that several party workers and legislators have expressed anxiety and concern over the recent developments in the party.
“Many of them have also been calling up senior leaders seeking an update. The top leaders shall apprise them of the situation and the emerging scenario,” the spokesman added.
The meeting would also attempt to clear the confusion arising out of Munde’s series of meetings with senior leaders of different parties in the state, including Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and Shiv Sena, in the past three weeks.
Meanwhile, since the past two days, a sulking Munde has been engaged in confabulations with the top BJP leaders, including president Nitin Gadkari.
He has also met L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu, Arun Jaitley and others.
At the same time, he is also believed to be hobnobbing with top Congress leaders in the capital, sending jitters in the BJP leadership.
Though no leader in the state was willing to comment, Munde is reportedly expected to call on Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi in a day or so.
However, before leaving for a BJP meeting in New Delhi, Munde last Saturday denied in Mumbai that he was planning to join either the Congress, NCP or Shiv Sena.
