Kasargod police firing: Muslim League boycotts sitting for evidence collection

By TCN News,

Kasargod: The sitting for the collection of evidence by the judicial enquiry commission in connection with the Kasargod police firing became a farce yesterday as the Muslim League, whose worker had died in the firing, boycotted the sitting. Public people also did not attend the sitting.

One person was killed and several others injured in the police firing that took place on November 15, 2009, following some untoward incidents during the public programme of the Muslim League on the day. Muslim league leader Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal had just become the party president and the district Muslim League was giving him a welcome. Shafeeq (18) was killed reportedly by the bullets from the revolver of the then SP Ramdass Pothen. And in the clashes that followed, 26-year old Askar was stabbed to death.

The single-man commission of Justice MA Nisar held the sitting for collection of evidence at the Collectorate Conference Hall. While people did not turn up for the sitting, Special Prosecutor Muhammed Kalathil presented the necessary documents and CDs, representing the Kasargod SP.

Muslim League district president Cherkkalam Abdulla later reportedly said that the party boycotted the sitting as it was sure that no justice would be got from the commission of a leftist co-traveller. The Commission was appointed by the last LDF government. He added that a memorandum had been submitted to the UDF government requesting it to go for a CBI inquiry.

The next sitting of the commission will be held at 2 pm on July 28 at the Collectorate Conference Hall itself. However, the Muslim League seems to be strong in its decision not to cooperate with the commission until Js MA Nisar is removed from it.
