Mumbai : Paying a visit to the family of murdered senior journalist Jyotirmoy Dey, Republican Party of India (RPI) chief Ramdas Athawale Friday gave them Rs.1 lakh financial assistance.
“I met the grieving mother and sister of Dey at their residence in Ghatkopar (in south central Mumbai) today. On behalf of the party, I have given them some financial assistance,” Athawale told IANS.
“Dey was doing a good job exposing the underworld and he shouldn’t have met this fate. His family needs moral support too,” he added.
Demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the murder, Athawale said that it has been nearly two weeks since Dey’s murder and it is time now that the police cracked the case.
“If the Mumbai Police is unable to find Dey’s assailants in a week, then the case should be transferred to CBI,” he told IANS.
Athawale also demanded that the state government should provide financial assistance of Rs.25 lakh to Dey’s family.
“The state government should provide his family with an assistance of Rs.25 lakh. Other political parties should also look into this from their side,” he said.
Dey, Editor (special investigations), was shot dead by four unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants June 11 as he was going on his motorcycle near his residence.
