Government targeting our party workers: Manpreet Badal

By IANS,

Chandigarh: The People’s Party of Punjab (PPP), led by expelled Akali Dal leader Manpreet Singh Badal Monday, approached the Punjab Human Rights Commission (PHRC) alleging the Akali Dal-led state government was falsely implicating its party workers in fabricated cases.

In the petition, Manpreet Badal cited seven cases slapped on their workers simply to force them to snap the ties with the PPP.

“The state government is robbing the right of self-determination from the people of Punjab, who have willingly joined PPP. Today we have pointed out seven false criminal cases that were registered against our workers in different parts of Punjab,” he told reporters here Monday.

“This type of vicious intimidation is a violation of basic rights of people. After a fair probe, we want PHRC to order a prosecution against officers responsible for misuse of official powers,” he said.

Badal, a former Punjab finance minister and nephew of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, had launched his party March 27. He resigned as minister October 2010 following differences over governance issues and was expelled from the party soon after.
