Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will from next month begin regular interactions with workers of alliance partner Congress to boost cooperation with his National Conference.
This process would start from July 4, according to highly-placed official sources.
This is the first time, since Omar Abdullah’s grandfather Sheikh Abdullah headed the first coalition government in 1975, that any chief minister is taking such an initiative.
Officials said the move would not just blunt Congress criticism that the party was being ignored but also help strengthen the National Conference-Congress government in the state.
During an interaction with a group of editors in New Delhi Wednesday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said Omar Abdullah would serve his full six-year term as chief minister because the Congress had not reversed its arrangement with the National Conference on this.
