Congress moves court for CBI probe into Kerala lottery scam

By IANS,

Kochi : Congress legislator V.D. Sateeshan Tuesday filed a petition in the Kerala High Court demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the lottery scam in the state.

Speaking to IANS, Sateeshan said the court would take up the petition Thursday.

“I have included both the state and central governments as the respondents. And now they will both have to reply as to what their stand on this would be,” he said.

The state Congress has been demanding a probe into the “underhand dealings” of the lottery mafia operating in the state.

Since last week, the Congress has been alleging that Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan’s son V. Arunkumar was behind scuttling a CBI probe into the lottery scam.

Achuthanandan earlier said that his demand for a CBI probe was scuttled by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

He said Home Minister P. Chidambaram was not keen on a federal probe in the scam and had not acknowledged his letter demanding a CBI probe in the scam – a charge denied by the latter.
