Mumbai: During his visit to Mumbai on Thursday, the newly appointed Chairman of the National Commission for Minority (NCM), Wajahat Habibullah demanded acquittal of all the 9 accused of the 2006 Malegaon bomb blast who are languishing in jail for more than 4 years. Mr. Habibullah visited the Aurthur Road jail in Mumbai to meet the accused.
Speaking to the reporters at Sahyadri guest house, the NCM chief said, “Our delegation met the ministers in state government and police officials to assess the welfare and socio- economic situation of the minorities. We particularly asked them to help innocent Muslim accused especially of Malegaon blast who should be freed after the confession of Aseemanand.”
Malegaon blast 2006
Mr. Habibullah led delegation which included Syeda Bilgrami Imam and senior journalist Vinod Sharma, members of the NCM, was in the Maximum city to discuss the Malegaon Blast 2006 with the state government, the state home minister and the police officials.
“The state officials and Ministers told us that because the case is with the CBI, they can’t help much in the case,” Mr. Habibullah informed TCN.
“I will discuss the issue with the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram and the CBI chief in Delhi and see to it that the innocent must get Justice,” he further informed.
The delegation also met Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Yusuf Muchala, Mahesh Bhat, Maulana Mustaqeem Ahsan Azmi, Gulzar Azmi, Maulan Zaheer Abbas Rizvi, Nizamuddin Raen, and Advocate Abdul Wahab.
