The relations between All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal and president of Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind (Arshad faction) Maualan Arshad Madani turned worse with Ajmal filing a defamation lawsuit against Madani in Guwahati High Court on 4th March.
Lok Sabha Member from Dhubri constituency in Assam, Maulana Ajmal has sought Rs 101 crore as damage compensation from Maulana Madani who had accused perfume baron Ajmal of taking a bribe of Rs 55 crore from Bharatiya Janata Party. Either the maulan will have to prove his charge or pay Ajmal the heavy damage compensation, sources close to Ajmal informed TwoCircles.net.
Besides being chief of AIUDF, which has 10 MLAs in Assam Assembly and one MP in Lok Sabha (in the face of Ajmal himself) Ajmal was Assam president of Arshad faction of Jamiat. But a couple of weeks before the dates of state assembly election was announced earlier this week, Maulana Arshad Madani, who is said to be close to Congress, sacked Ajmal and dissolved state unit of Jamiat.
While Arshad Madani said that too much politics had intruded state Jamiat, Ajmal camp said the move to dissolve Jamiat and sack Ajmal was just to divide Muslim vote and please Congress. Ajmal’s party has emerged as a strong contender of Muslim votes in the North Eastern state of Assam where the community constitutes more than 30% of state population.
Though AIUDF won only one seat in 2009 Lok Sabha elections it ensure defeat of Congress candidates on 5 seats.
Meanwhile, Election Commission of India has announced the dates for assembly elections in five states including Assam where polling will take place on April 4 and 11. Votes will be counted on May 13.
AIUDF filed a case on 4th March at Guwahati High Court claiming for Rs 101 crore compensation from Maulana Arshad Madni or prove his bribe claim of Rs 55 crore from BJP by Maulana Badruddin Ajmal.
