Another major blow to Congress, says BJP

New Delhi: Describing the DMK’s withdrawal of unconditional support to the United Progressive Alliance-II government as “another major blow” to the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said it was “keeping a close watch on the developments”.

“Congress party, reeling under incessant charges of corruption, seemingly got another major blow with the DMK threatening to part ways,” BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy told IANS.

“The BJP is keeping a close watch on the situation,” he added.

Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK Saturday ended its seven-year alliance with the Congress and pulled out of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government after running into roadblocks over seat-sharing in assembly elections only a month away.

At a high-level meeting of the DMK held in Chennai, a resolution withdrawing unconditional support to the 21-month-old UPA-II government was passed Saturday evening.

The party asked its six ministers to proceed to New Delhi and submit their resignations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
