Tokyo : Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara, seen as a possible successor to Prime Minister Naoto Kan, is to step down after receiving an illegal donation, media reports said Sunday.
Maehara admitted Friday to having accepted a donation of 50,000 yen ($607) from the South Korean national living in Japan, in violation of a Japanese law, Kyodo News reported.
The resignation would deal a severe blow to the unpopular premier’s government.
