Delhi girl’s murder: Dikshit asks people to be more responsible

By IANS,

New Delhi: Blaming Delhiites for keeping their eyes shut when a 20-year-old woman was shot dead in broad daylight, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Thursday asked the residents of the capital to be more responsible and speak up when they see such crimes take place in the city.

“Not one person raised a voice or came out to help her or took her to the hospital. Only when the police van came, it took her to the hospital where she was declared dead as she was shot from a point where she could not have survived even a second,” Dikshit said during a function here.

Expressing shock over the incident in which Radhika Tanwar, a second year Delhi University student, was shot dead near her south Delhi college Tuesday, Dikshit said none of the people around her said anything.

“What did the civil society do which was present at the spot — closed its eyes and said it doesn’t matter to me and I am not concerned and it is not part of my job… so I don’t have to say anything,” said Dikshit.

She said the girl’s parents were upset so they blamed the police.

“Civil society should also take responsibility and people should be more responsible when they see acts of crime in front of them,” she said.
