New Delhi : Four members of a gang were arrested for allegedly robbing people near New Delhi Railway Station, police said Friday.
The men of the “Thak-Thak” gang, who use to divert the victim’s attention before robbing him, were held Thursday when a man raised an alarm near the station.
They were trying to rob the man of his handbag after diverting his attention. A beat constable apprehended Anand.
Meanwhile, a New Delhi police station officer rushed to the spot and arrested the rest of them.
Anand, 46, Palani, 43 and Rattamalai, 49, are from Tamil Nadu, while Shankar, 26, is from Karnataka.
“After being caught, the accused posed as if they did not know Hindi and English. However, after sustained interrogation, they disclosed that they robbed people to earn money for a life of luxury,” a senior police officer said.
A handbag containing Rs.35,000, a gold chain, a diamond ring worth Rs.2.7 lakh and clothes were recovered from their possession.
“These men would usually surround a car and one of them would knock at the windowpane and tell the occupant that his money had fallen on the road. When the victim got down to check, they would snatch his bag from the car and flee,” the officer said.
