New Delhi: Amid growing unrest in West Asian countries, India Friday asked its nationals to leave Yemen by commercial means and advised its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to that country.
“In view of the evolving situation in Yemen, those Indian nationals residing in Yemen whose presence is not essential, particularly families, may consider leaving the country by the commercial means available,” the external affairs ministry said in a statement.
“All non-essential travel to Yemen, meanwhile, may be avoided until the situation improves,” the ministry said.
Around 11,000 Indians are currently staying in different parts of Yemen.
Yemen has been witnessing strident protests demanding the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who has been in power for 32 years.
