Haryana: March 6 is observed by many nations as a day for creating awareness about the “missing” girl child. This year the day, along with other nations, was also observed in Haryana — a state which has, after Punjab, the second lowest number of girls in India. A Global March for the Missing Girl Child was organized by the National Alliance for People’s Movement (NAPM) in Sirsa, Fatehabad and Jind districts in Haryana.
The march, led by NAPM’s Faisal Khan, was participated by hundreds of local people including students and other members of civil society.
Appealing to Muslim organizations to take up the cause of girl child, Mr. Khan said that, “It is high time Muslim organizations should raise the issue at every level precisely because it’s an area on which Islam gives special emphasis.”
The march covered the total distance of 3 kilometers. NAPM has been working on the issue of girl child in Haryana since last 8 years.
