New Delhi: The Delhi cabinet Monday approved the draft Delhi Geospatial Data Infrastructure Bill, 2011 – a flagship project of the city government launched to frame and implement policies for issues relating to geospatial data.

The bill, to be introduced in the budget session of the Delhi assembly beginning Tuesday, will serve as the base for planning and executing various development projects and utility services.

Talking to media persons, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the Delhi State Spatial Data Infrastructure (DSSDI) project was launched to frame and implement policies for issues related to geospatial data.

Dikshit said the data could be utilised through the GIS system established at two centres in the city.

“Besides, 63 cameras are being installed at strategic positions in Delhi for transmitting relevant information to the monitoring centres. The data could also be utilised for better disaster management in case of any natural calamity or man-made disaster,” she said.
