Indians in Bahrain advised to keep low profile: Ahamed

By IANS,

New Delhi: After violent clashes in Bahrain over the weekend, India is closely monitoring the situation in the Gulf state and has asked the Indian community to maintain a low profile, Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed said here Monday.

“India is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Bahrain. I am in constant touch with our ambassador and have asked him to stay closely in touch with the Indian community,” Ahamed told reporters.

He said that the Indian community should follow the Indian embassy’s advice “to keep a low profile, stay indoors and to avoid all non-essential travel within the country”.

Clashes between the Bahrain police and a number of Shiite protesters Sunday were one of the most violent confrontations since troops killed seven protesters last month.
