Pranab, Mamata meet on seat-sharing inconclusive

By IANS,

Kolkata : Senior Congress leader and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Trinamool Congress supremo and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee met Tuesday but could not reach an agreement on seat-sharing for the April-May assembly elections in West Bengal.

“We have discussed seat-sharing. Discussion is inconclusive. We shall discuss it again,” Mukherjee said after the meeting ended at his residence in South Kolkata.

The meeting between Mukherjee and Banerjee lasted for about 70 minutes.

However, a state Congress leader, on condition of anonymity, said: “It was not at all declared that the seat sharing deal will be sealed today only. It was media speculation. It is still open but I feel that the chances have hardened.”

The meeting between Mukherjee and Banerjee was also attended by Congress’ West Bengal unit chief Manas Bhuniya and Congress leaders Shakeel Ahmed and Janardhan Poojari and Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy.

Earlier during a meeting in New Delhi, the Trinamool Congress agreed to part with 65 seats but the Congress leaders insisted on “quality” seats and demanded 90 seats.
