New Delhi : Outraged at Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh’s coach being asked to remove his turban during a security check at the Milan airport a day earlier, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) members in the Lok Sabha Wednesday said the government was “anti-Sikh” as it was not asking foreign governments to respect the religious rights of the Sikh community.
Soon after External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna replied to the debate on demands for grant for his ministry, SAD member Harsimrat Kaur Badal raised the Milan incident and asked why the government was not talking to foreign governments so that the religious sentiments of the Sikhs are respected.
“This government is anti-Sikh and anti-minority. That’s why nothing is being done to ensure the religious sentiments of the minorities are respected,” she charged.
Jeev Milkha Singh’s coach Amritinder Singh Tuesday faced harassment at the Milan airport where he was forced to remove his turban before being allowed to board the flight to Sicily.
Jeev, who was accompanied by Amritinder, protested but they were sternly told by the security officials that his coach could either remove the turban or not board the flight.
