Seven killed in Pakistan mine blasts

By IANS,

Islamabad: At least seven miners were killed and 45 trapped underground after a series of blasts Sunday morning in a coal mine in southwest Pakistan, media reports said.

Urdu TV channel ARY said the accident in Sorang area, 40 km from Quetta, took place before dawn. The mine is owned by the Pakistan Mineral Development Corp.

The accident took place due to poor ventilation, leading to accumulation of gases in the shaft, officials said.

There were at least 52 miners in the mine’s different levels, which are 200-1,000 feet under ground. A rescue team has recovered seven bodies.
