New Delhi: An interesting twist to the episode of illegal demolition of Noor Masjid in Jangpura by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) came on Monday when the Delhi High Court was informed that the DDA is ready to provide an alternative plot for the reconstruction of the mosque.

In fact, the counsel for both the DDA and the Noor Charitable Society, parties in the contempt case currently going on in the Delhi HC, informed the Court that both the parties are in the final stages of finding an amicable settlement to the dispute according to which the DDA will provide an alternative plot measuring 400 square meters for the reconstruction of the mosque.

Both the parties requested the Court to hold the contempt case for some time so that they could close the dispute by finalizing the details of the amicable solution. Currently the court is hearing a contempt case filed by the Jangpura Resident Welfare Association against the DDA for the non compliance of the court orders of a status quo after the mosque was demolished.

The court has decided May 16 as the date for the next hearing of the case.

Noor mosque was demolished by the DDA on January 12 triggering popular protests across the capital city against the authority and the Delhi government.
