Writer, Freedom Fighter Wajahat Ali Sandilvi remembered

Lucknow: It has been seen in past few years that interest of the youths in literature specially in Urdu literature has gone relatively down which is the matter of worry, said former MP Hamida Habibullah speaking at the seminar on ‘Wajahat Ali Sandilvi: Life and Contributions’ organised by Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad Memorial Society at Karan Bhai Auditorium in Lucknow on Tuesday.

Wajahat Ali Sandilvi was renowned writer as well as freedom fighter. The works of Wajahat Ali Sandilvi for the kids was the masterpiece as that type of literature for kids was rarely written. “It is the need of time that those should be collected and compiled to draw the interest of the young generation towards literature,” she advised.

Padmashree Ishrat Ali Siddique who was also a freedom fighter and good friend of Wajahat Ali Sandilvi remembering the writer, stated that Sandilvi had the passion of writing since he was in school and was a better writer even at that time. “Sandilvi worked as journalist for some years along with it he studied law and became lawyer for the welfare of the people as he was not after money,” he added.

Siddique stated that Sandilvi used to keep sympathy with the downtrodden people of the society. “I and Sandilvi actively participated in the freedom struggle of the country as he was a great patriot too,” he added.

Vice Chancellor of Kanshiram Urdu, Arabi and Farsi University, Anees Ansari said that Sandilvi wrote nearly 24 books on different aspects of life. Being a lawyer it was a difficult task for him but he never compromised with his writing and properly managed his profession and passion. “His various works on Urdu inspires one for learning the Urdu language,” he added.

“The collection of his writings should be compiled and published for the betterment of Urdu language as it will help in learning Urdu to all those willing,” he urged.

Later he informed newsmen that the Kanshiram Urdu, Arbi and Farsi University will host a special lecture on the contribution of Amri Khusro and Sant Kabir in the development of Urdu-Hindi literature on Friday. The lecture will be delivered by the former Head of the Hindi Department, Jamia Milia Islamia Prof Mujeeb Rizvi at the Malviya Hall of the Lucknow University (LU) on Friday. The lecture is being organised with the support of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Memorial Committee.

This is the first lecture by the university which is yet to start formal academic session.
