Four cricket betting syndicates busted, 11 arrested

New Delhi : Four betting syndicates, involving almost Rs.4 crore, operating during the India-Australia World Cup quarter-final match Thursday were busted and 11 people arrested, police said Friday.

“Three of the syndicates were operating at Tri Nagar in Keshavpuram area, Vishnu Garden in Vikaspuri area, Budh Vihar in Sultanpuri area, all in west Delhi and Sadhnagar in Palam Colony area in south Delhi,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Chand.

Three people – Ajay Kumar, 43, Prahlad Keshwani, 38, and Ankur Bhutani, 33 – were held from Tri Nagar and found to be managing bets worth Rs.1.5 crore, he said.

Bimal Kumar, 47, Gaurav Sharma, 26, and Sanjay Bakshi, 36, were held from Vishnu Garden. They were running bets totalling Rs.75 lakh. Narender Kumar, 41, and Suresh Kumar, 41, were held from Budh Vihar area for running a Rs.65 lakh betting syndicate, Chand said.

Meanwhile, Deepak Pundir, 32, Ranjeet Singh Saini, 30 and Sachin Gupta, 24 were arrested from Sadh Nagar area. They were running bets for around Rs.80 lakh.

Police seized an LCD TV, four laptops with broad-band connection and 55 mobile phones in the four cases.

The gamblers were using a software, Back ‘N’ Lay Pro, for calculating profit and losses, police said.

“The rates used to fluctuate with the fall of wickets and the runs scored,” said Chand.
