Egyptian with US citizenship arrested in Syria: SANA

By DPA,

Damascus/Cairo : An Egyptian who holds US citizenship is among the foreigners arrested by Syrian security forces and accused of helping to incite strife in the country, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.

SANA did not give the name of the US citizen, but said “the arrested man admitted that he had secretly visited Israel and confessed to being funded from abroad in exchange for sending photos and videos about the current events in Syria”.

“He confessed that he was selected because he lived and worked in Syria and carries a camera-equipped mobile phone and can benefit from this opportunity,” SANA reported Saturday.

Last week, the US embassy in Syria was seeking information on the whereabouts of a US college student whose parents believe he was detained by authorities there during a demonstration. Tik Root, 21, of Ripton, Vermont, disappeared March 18 in Damascus, his father, Tom told CNN.

ROOT was enrolled in an Arabic programme at Damascus University.
