Jordan’s Islamists urge government to resign

By IANS,

Amman : Jordan’s Islamic Action Front (IAF) has called on the government to resign in the wake of Friday’s clashes between pro-reform protesters and government loyalists.

IAF, the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, condemned Friday’s attack by gangs of thugs against the demonstrators in a sit-in near Jamal Abdul Naser roundabout, which led to killing of a person and injuries to over 100 people, Xinhua reported.

IAF leaders in a press conference Saturday demanded the dissolution of the lower house and constitutional amendments as soon as possible.

They also called for holding those behind the attack accountable and referring them to law.

On Friday, security forces used water cannons to end the clashes between pro-reform demonstrators and government loyalists, and arrested scores of demonstrators.
