International coalition effort at turning point: Clinton

By DPA,

London : The efforts of the international coalition in Libya are at a “turning point” after 10 days of sustained pressure on Muammar Gaddafi, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Tuesday.

“We have averted a potential massacre,” Clinton said at the opening of an international conference on Libya in London.

A “turning point” had now been reached after NATO had agreed to take full control of the military operations, which would continue until Gaddafi “ceased his attacks on civilians”.

Although a lot still needed to be done in Libya, the achievements of the coalition were “not bad for a week’s work”, said Clinton in her opening statement.
