CK Abdul Azeez leaves PDP

By TCN News,

Malappuram: Former state leader of Kerala’s People’s Democratic Party Mr CK Abdul Azeez left the party. Mr Azeez reportedly said in a press release that he was resigning all posts in and quitting the party. The reason for leaving is the difference of opinion that arose in connection with the Assembly elections.

Mr Azeez was the former chairman of the party’s policy-making committee. He has been in the forefront taking care of the court procedures of party chairman Abdunnasir Maudany who is presently in jail in connection with the 2008 Bengaluru blasts. While he was in Bengaluru taking care of the court procedures of Maudany, Azeez was arrested by the CBI in September 2010 in connection with a 1993 bank forgery case.

Problems had arisen in the PDP after the arrest of Maudany and it increased during the Panchayat and Assembly election times. Senior leader and acting chairman of the party for several years Mr Poonthura Siraj quit the party after the Panchayat elections. Another leader Gafoor Puthuppadi left the PDP and joined the BSP.

Abdul Azeez was earlier in the PDP central committee and then became state general secretary. He also served as the party’s working chairman for three years since 2003 when Maudany was in jail. His name too was heard among the possible candidates in the Ponnani constituency in the last Lok Sabha elections. He was active in the campaigns for the LDF candidate when the PDP supported the LDF. He is now reportedly serving as the coordinator of the Maudany Legal Aid Cell. He is also a member of the ‘Save Maudany Forum’.
