Farmers clash with police in Uttar Pradesh, official injured

Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) : Farmers in Gautam Budh Nagar district held the crew of a state roadways bus hostage and clashed with the police Saturday after an agitation to demand higher compensation for their land acquired by the Uttar Pradesh government turned violent, officials said.

Gautam Budh Nagar’s District Magistrate Deepak Aggarwal is said to have been injured in the clashes, officials added.

The police had gone to Bhatta Parsaul village near here to rescue the crew of a UP Roadways Bus which was held hostage by the farmers.

Police personnel fired teargas shells to disperse the agitators.
