Work on Delhi Metro third phase to commence soon

New Delhi : The work on Delhi Metro’s third phase will commence in the next few weeks, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Sunday.

She also said that a large number of new low-floor buses have been added to the fleet of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

“With the completion of the Metro’s third phase, the colonies in Delhi will become closer to each other. Apart from this, a large number of new low-floor buses have been added to DTC’s fleet,” Dikshit said at a public rally in Tri Nagar area of west Delhi.

Confirming the news on the Metro’s work, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson Anuj Dayal told IANS that “the work will be starting in the next few weeks”.

The third phase of the project was approved by the Delhi government April 11.

The new lines in the third phase will link Mukundpur with Yamuna Vihar and Janakpuri West with Noida Botanical Garden.

Three existing routes will be extended: The Badarpur-Central Secretariat line up to Kashmere Gate, the HUDA City Centre-Jahangirpuri line up to Badli and the Dwarka-Noida line up to Najafgarh.

According to Dikshit, 67 stations will come up under the 108-km third phase. Of this, 41 km will be underground and 67 km will be elevated.

The anticipated cost is over Rs.30,000 crore.
