7.1-magnitude quake hits off Vanuatu, no tsunami warning issued

Suva : A 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit off the south Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake hits the Loyalty Islands at 7:55 p.m. local time ( 0855 GMT), with a depth of 26.5 km.

According to USGS, the epicenter of the jolt was located some 276 km south of Vanuatu’s capital of Port-Vila.

So far no tsunami warning was issued. And there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.
