New Delhi : As the 34-year uninterrupted rule of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) led Left Front in West Bengal nears its end, the party office in Delhi wore a deserted look Friday with top left leaders avoiding the media.
A battery of journalists had queued up since early morning at the A.K. Gopalan Bhawan on Bhai Vir Singh Marg in the capital, but only a few leaders were present at there as supporters were also missing.
CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat, Rajya Sabha MPs Brinda Karat and Sitaram Yechury and politburo member M.K. Pandey were seen entering the office but they avoided meeting the media persons.
As the TV channels were flashing and running live coverage of the historic win of Trinamool Congress that routed the communists from West Bengal, ironically a television set at the CPI-M party office was not even switched on till late morning.
It was revealed later that the TV set had developed some technical snag and was repaired later in the day.
The communists were also struggling to retain the power in Kerala as the Left Democratic Front (LDF) was neck and neck with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) although pundits predicted that any of the fronts could scrape through.
