Islamabad : Four Pakistani Taliban terrorists have been arrested in the port city of Karachi on charges of plotting to blow up sensitive government buildings and installations, police said Friday.
One of the arrested terrorists is a university student. A huge cache of weapons was seized from them, Xinhua reported.
Senior Superintendent of Police Omar Shahid Aamir said the terrorists were arrested Thursday night after a gun battle with police in the suburbs of the city. Some of their accomplices managed to escape, he said.
Three suicide jackets, around 25 kg of explosives and arms and ammunition were seized in the operation.
He said the terrorists were highly educated and well versed in the use of latest electronic gadgetry and computers, and how to use them in acts of terrorism.
One of them is a student of physics in a prestigious university in the city, and is believed to be involved in distribution of subversive material among students and preaching extremism.
The arrested terrorists revealed that over 150 students in various universities are being prepared to carry out terrorist attacks in the country.
